You’re Not Broken. Your Growth Model Is.

The growth playbook that worked 10 years ago is running out of runway.

If you’re feeling the stall, you’re not broken-your model is.

Here’s what today demands (and yesterday didn’t).

In the past, you could “sell more units, hire more salespeople” and ride the wave. Then the wave flattened.

Look at three well-known pivots that dodged a plateau:

  • Adobe shifted from boxed software to Creative Cloud subscriptions. That single move turned one-off spikes into durable recurring revenue, and unlocked faster product iteration.
  • Microsoft reoriented around cloud and interoperability under Nadella. Instead of guarding Windows at all costs, they went “cloud-first, cross-platform”—and reignited growth.
  • Netflix jumped from DVDs to streaming to originals. They didn’t defend the past; they built the next engine before the old one ran dry.

And a cautionary tale: Blockbuster had the customer, the stores, the brand-just not the willingness to pivot the model. The plateau wasn’t a speed bump. It was the end.

If your growth has slowed, think in terms of present → future:

Pivot

Realign who you serve, what you sell, or how you deliver

(Examples: subscription vs. one-off, self-serve vs. guided, niche vertical vs. generalist.)

Innovate

Repackage value-pricing, tiers, guarantees, onboarding. Small packaging changes can create big conversion and retention gains.

Expand

Add new channels, partners, or geographies—but only after the model converts profitably in your core lane.

Quick self-diagnosis (pick one to fix this quarter):

  • Market fit: Are you solving a must-fix problem for a specific buyer right now?
  • Offer economics: Do margins support scale without discount gymnastics?
  • Delivery: Can you fulfill 10× demand without the wheels coming off?
  • Distribution: Is there a repeatable path to new customers you don’t already know?

The founders who escape plateaus don’t “work harder on yesterday.” They build the next engine while the current one still runs.

🧠 Summary

Your move is simple: choose one lever-pivot the model, innovate the package, or expand distribution, and commit for 90 days.

Which lever are you pulling, and what’s the first concrete change you’ll ship this week?
